Privacy Policy

This site is run by David Cain, operating as Snow City Media, in Winnipeg, Canada. This policy explains what information I collect from you, why, and what I do with it.
How data is collected and used
Email subscription
If you join any of my email lists, I collect your email address (and your name, if you give it). They are stored with Kit (kit.com), my email service provider. I use this information to send you what you signed up for. You can unsubscribe any time, from any list, from a link at the bottom of any email.
Purchases
When you buy one of my products, the checkout is handled by a payment platform — Gumroad, Podia (payments processed by Stripe), or Patreon, depending on the product. I never see or store your payment card details; those stay with the payment platform. What I do receive and keep is your name, email address, and purchase history, so I can deliver and follow up on your purchase.
Surveys
I occasionally run voluntary surveys (using Google Forms or Tally) to understand my readers better. Some questions may touch on personal topics — for example, ADHD diagnosis or medication — and answering them is always optional. Survey responses are used to create content, for product research, and to understand the makeup of my audience. Individual responses to surveys are never published in a way that identifies you. Survey data is never sold, and never shared except in anonymized reports of the aggregate data, or in anecdotal form (e.g. single quotes or numbers pulled from the data [also always anonymous]).
Correspondence
If you email me, I keep the correspondence, the way anyone keeps email. I also keep simple internal records connecting a reader’s messages, subscription, and purchase history, so that when I communicate with that person in the future I have context for that communication. I may quote reader correspondence in a post with all identifying details removed.
Comments
If you submit comments to the site, WordPress stores the email address you entered, the web URL you entered (if any), and the content of your comment. Email address is not displayed to other visitors; comment content and entered URLs are. If you want one of your comments deleted, just email me (see below). Commenters’ IP addresses are also stored by WordPress and visible only to me as the site administrator.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses an analytics service called Umami to count visits in aggregate; it tracks things like city and country of origin, OS, browser, device type, but doesn’t identify you personally. This site uses a few basic cookies to function (e.g.) to remember you between visits if you leave a comment. You can set your browser to refuse cookies; some features may not work right without them.
Server logs
This site’s server automatically records basic technical information about visits (e.g.) browser type, referring site, date and time of each request, IP address, etc. I use this information to understand how the site is used and to keep it running.
Sharing of user information with third parties
I don’t sell, rent, or trade your information. It is shared only with the service providers named above (Kit, the payment platforms, Tally), who process it on my behalf to keep the site and its connected services (e.g. email campaigns) functioning. I may disclose information if the law requires it, or if disclosure is genuinely necessary to protect my rights, property, or safety, or those of someone else.
Children
This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
In the event of acquisition
In the unlikely event Snow City Media or any of its sites are ever acquired or retired, the information described here may be part of what is transferred, and any successor would be bound to use it as this policy describes.
Your rights
You can unsubscribe from email lists at any time from links in any email. You can also email me directly to ask what information I hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted.

Where your data lives
I’m based in Canada, and this site operates under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA). The service providers above may store data on servers in the United States or elsewhere; they each have their own privacy policies and safeguards.
